When I purchased this book, I did so simply because Mr. Giglio wrote it. I knew that his name alone meant that this would be a literary manifestation of art. I started reading the first chapter the same day I received my copy. My workday was winding down, and I meant to skim through it to get a feel for what I was immersing myself into. It wasn't long before my wife sent me a text asking if I was working late. I looked at my clock and realized I had stayed over by about an hour and was already three chapters in. I told my wife that I was just wrapping up a one on one with Pete and would be on my way shortly.I drove home to a cold dinner, and soon a shoulder that was just as cold. She was on to me, and my secret rendezvous with Mr. Giglio's mind. Needless to say, she took the book and read it through, taking her time...and days...to finish. Meanwhile, she would drop hints to the plot. I could only hide the anticipation to finish the story behind a half lit smile. When she finished, I took every opportunity to finish the words before me. At the end, I was left satisfied and awestruck at the genius before me. My anticipation for Mr. Giglio's next book is akin only to Hannibal's hunger for nice temporal lobe.
Well done Mr. Giglio. I look forward to your next masterpiece.

This book was a bit different from my normal reading habit; it truly kept my interest and attention. The story unfolds slowly but in a real way so you do not become bored with over writting of the topic. The relationships are genuine and you get a feeling for the characters that is real and believable. Read this book if you like ) endings.
Peter Giglio's short novel, STEALING NIGHT, is as good a novel as his short novelette, Sunfall Manor, wasn't! Man, what a great read! This tale had it all melancholy, violence, redemption, anger, love, hope, you name it---it was all there! I won't go into the plot since the novel is that short, but suffice it to say that all the other reviewers were spot on when they said this was a great, gripping, outstanding tale of a young man getting in over his head through no fault of his own, and finding his way home. Highly recommended!
When I first started reading this book, I thought it was going to be very interesting and full of action but I was sourly disappointed in the outcome!! The characters and the plot didn't do anything for me, sorry but I needed more info about the characters and more interesting stuff for the plot!! I should think that the author will continue with a part two maybe?
This being the first book I've ever read from this particular author, I had no idea what to expect. What I came to discover within a chapter or two is that Mr. Giglio is one hell of a writer. I found myself immediately sympathizing with the main character, Jack, a young man in dire financial straits stuck in the small town where he's lived his entire life, just dying to get out. Not only is Jack down on his luck but it would seem the entire town of Sunfall is right there with him. The only bright spot in all of this is the time he gets to spend with his eleven-year-old niece, Nora, his druggie sister's only child. And if things weren't bad enough, a sudden and shocking act of brutality makes it all just that much worse. Can Jack find a way out of the morass that has become his life? Can he save those he loves in the process? You'll have to read the book to find out. And, trust me, you won't regret it.
A well drawn cast of characters pulls the reader into the story and the plot's various -- and surprising -- twists will keep him/her guessing until the last page is turned. Yes, this book was a very pleasant surprise and I look forward to reading more of Mr. Giglio's work.

About two weeks ago, I read Stealing Night by Peter Giglio. It's fantastic as I knew it would be. Here's my overdue review
It follows after the novella Sunfall Manor and though it is not necessary to read them consecutively, I highly recommend it. And not just because reading them that way appeases my OCD, ahem, but mostly because one of my favorite points Stealing Night was the quick line or two nod to Sunfall Manor.
Speaking of Sunfall, the town itself is so easy to relate to. Sunfall, Nebraska is Anysmalltown, USA. I've been there, you've been there, and most of us have lived there at one time or another.
The character of Jack, in some ways, was reminiscent to me of Gaiman's Shadow. A mostly good man, caught in a bad situation and doing his best with what he has. I really like Jack.
I have compared Peter Giglio's style to that of Charlie Huston. This was a compliment and he received it as so. I maintain this sentiment. Though, do not think that he does not have a style all his own. He does and you'll love it.
The novel is a little dark, a little gritty and whole lot of wonderful. In the end, it is a novel of hope.
You should read it; we could all you a little more hope in our lives.

Stealing Night brings us back to the fictional town of Sunfall, Nebraska. This is not a sequel to Sunfall Manor (which is brilliant, buy it, right now), but simply another swift peek into the life of one man in a dying town. What seems to be the central “plot point” in the story is really nothing more than another wrinkle in Jack’s already tortuous life.
There’s plot here—plenty of that—but Giglio has done much more than hammer out a sequence of events in Stealing Night, one gets the sense the author took his hands off the wheel and let his characters have their way. Which is why this story is so good. It does not feel structured. You want things to happen, you think things should happen…maybe they do and maybe they don’t. What does happen in these pages is an honest and heart-wrenching story of struggle, loss, maybe even a bit of redemption.
Peter Giglio, so far as I can see, has steered several miles clear of self type-casting. His novels are diverse, even those set in the same town.
I hope to see more stories set in Sunfall. Sunfall, Nebraska may well be Giglio’s Castle Rock, Maine. One can only hope.
